Kelly Johnson
Kelly Johnson has been described as a “superb player” by Audiophile and Classical Musical Sentinel states, “Kelly Johnson certainly approaches the clarinet from every possible angle and in the process reveals this instrument’s many different facets.” Dr. Johnson is principal clarinetist with the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra and Professor of Clarinet at the University of Central Arkansas. She has toured worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician with performances in Belgium, Canada, England, Japan, Scotland, China, South Korea and Taiwan as well as throughout the United States. An active recording artist, her most recent CD, Child’s Play: Stories, Songs and Dances, on the Potenza label, features the works of Philip Parker, Eric Mandat, Rodney Rogers, Dejan Despic and Jim David. It has been described as a “wonderfully accomplished album” by The Clarinet and ” … a truly enjoyable disc” by Classical Musical Sentinel. Dr. Johnson has performed for several International Clarinet Association Conferences as well as the Oklahoma Clarinet Symposium. She is a member of the Camino Trio (violin, clarinet and piano), the Sunaura Trio (flute, oboe, piano), the URSA Trio (clarinet, violin, cello) and the ASO woodwind quintet, Etesian Winds. She received her Doctor of Musical Arts Degree from Arizona State University and her Bachelor of Music Degree from the University of Central Missouri. Her teachers include Dr. Robert Spring and Dr. Russell Coleman.
