Flight
Flight, the official march of the Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC, was commissioned by the Air Force Band in 1984 and premiered by the organization that November. Their recording still welcomes visitors as they enter the museum. A highly descriptive and dynamic work, Flight begins with the iconic Pachelbel’s Canon, woven into the opening section by request, before the brass introduces a soaring, heroic theme. With sweeping reeds, energetic percussion, and vibrant brass, the piece builds to a thrilling 6/8 section. Brilliant brass fanfares power the march to its exhilarating conclusion, making it a standout choice for any performance.
