Festive Proclamation

(1 customer review)

Commissioned by the Merrillville IN High School Symphonic Band Susan A. Williams, conductor. Its premiere performance was February 7, 1984 by the Merrillville, IN High School Symphonic Band and was originally entitled “Festive Episode”. This overture begins triumphantly and offers opportunities for trumpets, horns, percussion, clarinets, trombones and saxophones to be featured. This is a sure contest selection for the high school level.

Only weeks later, Dr Smith directed the Manitoba (Canada) Honour Band and pronounced our performance as the premiere. Perhaps a minor fib?

The recording brought back 40 year old memories that include a late spring snowstorm and an “extended practice” because we were all snowbound 😳.

I still play saxophone- presently with the Canadian Mennonite University concert band. We recently performed his Chorale and Allegro in concert, but I had to mention our “debut” and the circumstances. Unless our director already had a copy, I intend to purchase a score for the band so I can relive my youth.
